Saturday, Feb 17, 2018 UPDATE from Melanie Elsey: HB 512 will be assigned next week to the Government Accountability and Oversight Committee (GAO). The committee notice linked below includes HB512 on the agenda on Tuesday, February 20 at 1:00 pm for sponsor testimony only. This means Representative Reineke will present his bill to the committee and answer any questions they may have. Rep. Reineke also happens to be the Vice-Chair of the GAO Committee. Two other committee members are cosponsors on the measure as well - Representatives Blessing (Committee Chairman) and Pelanda. Copies of the sponsor testimony will be posted online by the Committee using the same link posted below to retrieve a copy of the agenda. LInk to the agenda (posted on the GAO Committee's website): http://www.ohiohouse.gov/committee/government-accountability-and-oversight The bill technically hasn't been assigned to the committee yet. That referral will be a formality Tuesday morning. We thank you for your continued support, as we closely follow this bill.

From CHEO's legislative liaison, Melanie Elsey: Legislation has been introduced today that substantially restructures Ohio's educational system. It would combine several key departments and all of the policy responsibilities of the State Board of Education into a newly formed Department of Learning Achievement. CHEO is in the process of reviewing the press conference materials from this afternoon and scrutinizing the language of the bill. We will also be discussing the implications of these policies with HSLDA and will provide an analysis of this legislation as soon as possible. This is a significant restructuring that incidentally incorporates our home education policies. We want to be careful to give families a complete understanding so they can successfully have conversations with their legislative representatives.
Make plans to attend the 2nd Annual COLLEGE FAIR and HIGH SCHOOL SYMPOSIUM presented by CHEO! This wonderful event is scheduled for April 7, 2018 in Granville, Ohio and will be a fantastic opportunity to speak with college reps and get questions answered for future college plans. We are also excited to announce that Carol Becker from HSLDA will be leading a High School Symposium prior to the College Fair. There will be 4 sessions covering a variety of college prep questions and concerns...you will be blessed by the time spent in these workshops.
