With 13.2 million acres of land, Wrangell St. Elias is the largest national park and is roughly six times the size of Yellowstone National Park. It houses some of the tallest mountain peaks in the country and boasts of over 150 impressive ice glaciers. Established December 2, 1980, this park is as rugged as it is massive. ⠀ ⠀ With only two roads through the park, often harsh weather conditions, and difficult accessibility, Wrangell St. Elias is not for the faint of heart. The unpredictable nature of the park attracts brave explorers seeking a thrilling adventure.
The best kind of two-for-one: 2 glaciers at once! I felt all kinds of badass that day after crossing a glacier and camping on this mountainside without any people in sight, carrying everything on my back like a mountain goddess and buzzing from the endorphins. Backpacking is addictive like that. There are still some spots for the women’s Alaska trips if you want to let your strong side show 💪 link in bio! Also everyone who comes on the trip will go home with awesome photos as well as editing presets made especially for the trip. I don’t have any plans to sell my presets but everyone on each tour will get them. I will also give away two right now to the two of you! Tag a friend in the comments with your fave animal emoji and I will pick a comment and send you each my sunset preset and a shout-out in my IG stories 🙈💛
#repost Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Photo by: @lauraashburnphotography ・・・ Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a United States national park and national preserve managed by the National Park Service in south central Alaska. The park and preserve was established in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. This protected area is included in an International Biosphere Reserve and is part of the Kluane/Wrangell–St. Elias/Glacier Bay/Tatshenshini-Alsek UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park and preserve form the largest area managed by the National Park Service in the United States by area with a total of 13,175,799 acres (20,587.186 sq mi; 53,320.57 km2), an expanse that could encapsulate a total of six Yellowstone National Parks. The park includes a large portion of the Saint Elias Mountains, which include most of the highest peaks in the United States and Canada, yet are within 10 miles (16 km) of tidewater, one of the highest reliefs in the world. Wrangell–St. Elias borders on Canada's Kluane National Park and Reserve to the east and approaches the U.S. Glacier Bay National Park to the south. The chief distinction between park and preserve lands is that sport hunting is prohibited in the park and permitted in the preserve. In addition, 9,078,675 acres (3,674,009 ha) of the park are designated as the largest single wilderness in the United States (Source: Wikipedia) #alaska#nationalpark#nationalparkservice#wrangellstelias#wrangellsteliasnationalpark#wrangellstenp @WrangellStENPS #nationalparksatoz
