Dare to take the road less traveled ❥ // Dana Nature Reserve "During our time together at @feynanecolodge, we spent time with multiple Bedouin families learning how to make tea, how to use the wild plants and herbs of the surrounding landscape for prevention and healing, coming to understand the rituals of coffee which are highly nuanced, observing bread being made in varying styles, showing Bedouin children the basics of photography, trusting our guide Suleiman to get us home safe in the desert darkness and taking cooking lessons back at the lodge. We grew used to the lack of electricity (the lodge is solar powered but minimally), and didn't miss the WiFi we would have had elsewhere. We slept on the roof when our rooms were too warm. We gazed at stars so numerous and large they made us feel minuscule. I can't show you in photos what it means to bond with people on a level that's permanent and I can't promise it will happen to you if you visit Feynan. But you should visit. It's a place 40 KM from the nearest paved road and it's likely that separation which makes it so inspiring. I don't know. All I do know is that all my fears were washed away in a flood of learning and love. " 📷 by @kirstenalana #myjordanjourney
Thankful for the kindness and hospitality of the Jordanian people, among countless glasses of sweet, sweet tea. It was doubly fun to share the incredible experiences with my adventure travel tribe, who will always be in my heart, no matter where we roam and where our paths may cross again. Shukran, Jordan. I'll be back. #anextjordan #myjordanjourney #jordan

The nighttime view from the roof of @feynanecolodge in Jordan. Due to a heatwave, I slept on the open-air roof during my stay there, accompanied by the moon and stars, an experience I will always cherish. #anextneareast #jordan

Does a simpler life bring you back to yourself? --- After the hustle of Amman and the resort life of the Dead Sea, Feynan provided us a chance to slow down and connect to ourselves and to nature, and to feel the simple poignancy of all the subtle moments. --- It's set in a majestic valley under the stars and moon, lit entirely by candles, and run by the most thoughtful, interesting, hospitable, and kind bedouin people we met in Jordan. --- Life moves slowly in Feynan. There is time and space to really feel and reflect. There are simple, wholesome tasks to meditate on, like making arbood, shepherding, sipping tea, or putting one foot in front of the other on a hike to watch the sun set over Wadi Araba. --- Feynan was the perfect setting for what had been shaken  up so far on the trip to settle and be distilled. We went deep within ourselves there. --- How can you use slowness and simplicity to feel more connected to yourself? JORDAN • After my assignment with TCS concluded, I traveled alone to the country of Jordan to rendezvous with colleagues from @adventure.travel_ for #anextneareast. My first flight was delayed causing me to miss my connecting flights, then my bags never made it to Amman so the adventure started out very adventurous indeed. When I arrived in the middle of the night, I was actually so afraid to meet my colleagues over breakfast the next morning, only one of whom I knew already, wearing the same clothes I'd been in for 3 days, drastically unprepared for hiking through desert wadis and up mountains. I feared the people I was about to meet would not accept me since they'd already had a day to bond without me, and I believed they would ridicule me for my ill-preparedness no matter how little control I had over it. The opposite was true and by the end of our first day together, we were family. During our time together at @feynanecolodge, we spent time with multiple Bedouin families learning how to make tea, how to use the wild plants and herbs of the surrounding landscape for prevention and healing, coming to understand the rituals of coffee which are highly nuanced, observing bread being made in varying styles, showing Bedouin children the basics of photography, trusting our guide Suleiman to get us home safe in the desert darkness and taking cooking lessons back at the lodge. this is the most beautiful place I saw this semester...and I had a wall of mirrors in my room
There are four main tribes that live in and around the Feynan area, Jordan, all of which are Bedouins. Bedu, or “desert dwellers” are the origin of the majority of the population in Jordan and are often considered as the backbone of the Kingdom due to their valuable contribution to the country’s culture and heritage. When visiting Feynan you will encounter what is arguably one of the last remaining Jordanian Bedouin communities that continue to live in their traditional lifestyle. You will have the rare opportunity to witness human development in the making, urbanisation, and the reality of a traditional culture trying to adapt to the new world. The communities take pride in their culture and heritage and feel honoured to receive guests from around the world eager to learn more about their way of life. #init4thelongrun 📷 - Feynan Ecolodge
My stay at the Feynan Ecohotel in Dana was more than I could have expected. As the first Ecohotel in Jordan they are leading the way with their commitment to promoting sustainable travel in Jordan. The lodge is completely off the grid, and uses solar panels for limited power. Because of this the lodge only serves vegetarian meals. At night the lodge & rooms are lit with 300 candles that are also made by the local Bedouins in the community. Hiking incredible trails, having real local experiences with the Bedouin community in Dana, cooking classes, numerous cups of tea, special cups of coffee, candlelit dinners, star gazing, goat 'attacks' and viewing the moon like never before are just some of the incredible memories I will take home with me from here. I'm feeling so blessed to have had this truly unique Jordanian experience
"The doors will be opened to those who are bold enough time knock." --Tony Gaskins One of my favorite things about @feynanecolodge was the attention detail -- like this door! Small touches like these unique door knockers lined up on the hotel's main door are part the ecolodge's charm. #jordan #feynan #dana #feynanecolodge #door #doorway #knock #danabiospherereserve #ecolodge #middleeast #livelovejordan #visitjordan #myjordanjourney #shareyourjordan #everydaymiddleeast #explorejordan #discoverjordan #lovejo #everydayjordan #travelblogging #travelwriter #travelingtheworld #travelmore #expat #expatliving #expatlife #expatadventures
