Every year in mid-December, I get the urge to do a major toy clean out and re-organize. It always begins with finding every toy in the house and making a big pile in the middle of the kids’ room. I’ve found as they get older, this big pile makes a big impression on them. They can get a really good visual πŸ‘€ on the number of toys they have and it means more than me saying “y’all have too many toys already” a thousand times. In my dreams, they have a collection of wooden toys that return neatly to their shelves each evening, but since that isn’t the reality, we use small shoebox sized plastic storage containers, organize their toys by type and store them in the bottom of their closet. #dreamvsreality [first photo by @alongcamefox ]
πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“ Repost from @greatoakcircle .......... so grateful to have found this affordable + beautiful printable from @seaandsavor for advent. i want to be slow + simple this year. unoverwhelmed. and this has been just the thing. #advent #jessetreeornaments
If you’re having a hard time finding a gift for the man on your list (why are they so hard to shop for?!😫), just sharing a little heads up that Beautycounter’s Counterman holiday collection will be back tomorrow. It sold out in a day last time, but if you’ll let me know today, I can place your order for you in the morning so you don’t even have to worry about it. πŸ‘¨πŸ½πŸŽβœ”οΈ
I’ve been doing a lot of daydreaming about a little beach cottage to call our own and there’s definitely a lot of shiplap covered walls in those daydreams. This bedroom by @beckiowens is all kinds of perfect!! 😍 • Speaking of shiplap, want to know a random fun (or lameπŸ€”) fact about me...... I’ve never seen an episode of Fixer Upper!😬 I’m sure I’d love Joanna, I have watched a video of her sharing her testimony, I just don’t watch HGTV. Honestly, an architect watching HGTV is about like a surgeon watching Grey’s Anatomy for their downtime. Just not as relaxing as Life in Pieces and Modern Family. πŸ˜‰ On a tangential thought, I have seen Joanna’s line for Target online and it looks beautiful! I’m sure it will all be gone by the time we are back in the States later this month, but there were some really nice things (including that adorable dollhouse!!😍). I hope my friends snagged some pretties for their homes!! πŸ’“
I received these sweet words over the weekend and..... well, I can’t even find the right words for how grateful I feel that God spoke this project into existence through me. What an honor to help families teach their children about Jesus, even in this small way. πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“ #seaandsavorjessetree ——•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—— “Thank you thank you thank you!!!! My sister in law gave me ornaments a few years ago but letting Ram color a page while we read and talk about it and then hang the ornament and then listen to music while we go on about the day ... amazing! It is so fun to connect and to hit all those senses to see it really sink in! So excited about the next 24 days!!” -TLW
From Santa arriving by boat, to pineapple and flamingo shaped Christmas cookies, we are embracing the new island twists on our Christmas fun. If you want a little island flavor in your December -wherever you are- try adding some pineapple juice to your apple cider. I just winged it when it came to adding all of these together but I usually like to follow recipes and thought others might as well. • combine 1/2 gallon apple cider, 3 cups pineapple juice, one sliced orange, and 3 cinnamon sticks. Simmer on low for half an hour to combine flavors and bring a little Summer into your winter. πŸŒ΄β˜ƒοΈ
JESSE TREE DISPLAY INSPIRATION • There are so many ways to display your Jesse Tree ornaments after your children color and cut them out. πŸ–βœ‚οΈ I’ve rounded up a few ideas for inspiration. • @homeyohmy has this wonderfully sweet dowel tree and you can find simple instructions on her blog. • A small tabletop tree would be just the right size and I love how @dreamywhiteslifestyle styles small trees in pottery or vintage crates. • I love this diy idea from @minted. With a branch, some twine, and eucalyptus not only will you have a place to clip your Jesse Tree ornaments, but you will also get to enjoy the winter scent of the eucalyptus! • A Christmas tree on the wall with yarn or bakers twine is oh so simple and sweet. I adore this one from @designimprovised • I love bringing the outdoors in and I bet your kids would enjoy going on a nature walk to collect branches for this idea from @marthastewart • And last by not least, when is washi tape not a good idea?! I love how simple this washi tape and twine Christmas tree is from @decopeques Can’t narrow down your favorite idea?! Use one for your Jesse Tree ornaments and one for displaying your Christmas cards. πŸ’“ I can’t wait to see how you all display your #seaandsavorjessetree ornaments this year! Please tag me so I can see!!! 😍
I’m still feeling the Thanksgiving vibes from last week because my family was visiting and we had such a wonderful time. Being so far from my family is definitely the hardest part of our move, but it really has made our time together even more precious. πŸ’“ This particular day at our favorite beach has been playing in my head on repeat. πŸ’“
I LOVE these Advent gift bags that @mdlincolnsquare in Chicago gave to their church families using the printable Jesse Tree Coloring Book!! ❀️ There is still time to prepare these and hand them out next Sunday morning. You could introduce the Jesse Tree and color the first two ornaments in the children’s ministry at church and then send the coloring book home with the kids to read & color with their families for the rest of Advent. πŸ’“πŸ’“ #seaandsavorjessetree
It has been so special to have family visiting us during our first big holiday after our international move. As I observed today how much fun the kids were having showing their cousin around, I was so grateful for them to have that lens to experience their new home through. It has been incredibly sweet for me to get to spend time with my oldest niece too. At 9 years old, she’s the leader of the pack on my side of the family, and what a sweet one she is!! I’m already dreaming of her having long visits with us in the summer. πŸ’“ (Now I’ve just got to talk my sister into that! πŸ˜‰)
I have added a commercial license listing for the printable Jesse Tree Coloring Book in the Etsy shop for bulk printing for churches and schools. In addition to the coloring book PDF, I’ve also included a PDF with the ornaments digitally colored for display. There are already churches participating in Chicago, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and two islands in the Bahamas. Where will be next? ❀️ Tag a church/school leader or children’s minister in the comments below. They have about a week to get ready before Advent begins. ❀️❀️❀️#seaandsavorjessetree
If you’re looking for an easy Thanksgiving craft that doubles as table decor, here’s a quick idea we did last year. πŸ¦ƒπŸ‚πŸ—πŸ I cut leaf shapes out of scrapbook paper and tossed them down the center of the table as a table runner. During our meal, all of our guests wrote what they were thankful for on a few leaves. πŸπŸ‚I wrote out a verse of Thanksgiving on some wrapping paper we had in the closet and everyone pinned up their leaves. • Shown here are just a few from our family—I wanted to remember these especially for Mason’s, as he was just beginning to write on his own. (His spelling is πŸ’―πŸ˜†)

A PRINTABLE JESSE TREE COLORING BOOK • $5 [link in profile] Over the past few years, our family has loved following a Jesse Tree reading plan during Advent. It has been probably the most meaningful part of our Christmas celebrations and this year I created a Jesse Tree Coloring Book to share with other families who want to observe this simple, but meaningful tradition during Advent. ............... The coloring book includes 25 hand drawn illustrations that can be colored and cut out to be transformed into ornaments to hang on a Christmas tree. The illustrations are paired with a Scripture reading and multimedia resources to enjoy with your family. The tradition of the Jesse Tree gets its name from Isaiah 11:1 “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.” The scripture readings trace the lineage of Jesus throughout the Old Testament and culminate with the celebration of Jesus’ birth on Christmas Day. ............... The Jesse Tree Coloring Book is available as an instant download on Etsy for only $5, and you can then print the number of copies you need for your family. [link in profile] Please contact me directly for a commercial license for churches/schools. ................ [Thank you so much to my precious friends Shawn and Katie Sandlin for the use of their song “Shepherd”. Available on iTunes.] #seaandsavorjessetree
I am NOT a runner, so that’s not what this is about. πŸ˜† Chariots of Fire is a favorite movie in our house. Jeremy really connected with this sentiment when he was swimming competitively and it wasn’t until recent years that I connected strongly with this in the gifts God has created in me. ................................. I operated off of a lot of self-sufficiency and will power in my 20s. But the Lord has used motherhood, and Karis’ adoption especially, to draw me nearer to Him. Now I see my gifts, not as strengths that I draw my self worth from, but as gifts to exercise in communion with my Creator. So like Eric Liddell, I understand that my purpose goes beyond the work I do with my hands, but when I create things and bring more beauty into the world, I feel His pleasure. Praise God for giving us each unique abilities to both contribute to others AND to commune with Him! #workisworship #everythingissacred ........................ What are you good at? Are you like me and sometimes afraid to name your gifts out loud? Friends, I’d love for you to share them here. One of the things that gets me really excited in life is to hear about your gifts and your desires to use them. Do you experience this kind of joy in something in your life? Please share! πŸ’“
It’s just a coloring book, which is so small and seemingly insignificant. But the Jesse Tree Coloring Book has come to represent a sweet and quiet season in my life where I’ve been surrounded by fewer people (A LOT fewer than my extroverted self is used to), and listening more to the leading of the Spirit instead of only the voices around me. I can’t quite describe the JOY I have experienced creating this coloring book. It has been quite an unexpected place of joy and nearness to God!! I mean, the fact that I even created a coloring book—that part was unexpected too! I’m so thankful that God gives us gifts, and then He gives us opportunities to use those gifts to serve Him. That’s such a beautiful process. #seaandsavorjessetree
Hey friends! πŸ’“ If you started following this Sea & Savor account back in the summer when I created it, you might have wondered what this is all about. 🀷🏻‍♀️ After yearssss of wanting a way to tie together all of my creative outlets under one platform, and many recent months of praying for God to lead me in how to use the gifts He has given me in this season of life, I’m excited to start sharing more of the vision behind Sea and Savor. So this week, I plan on describing what I will be creating in this space and on Friday I will be launching the first Sea and Savor project: The Jesse Tree Coloring Book. I am excited to use this space to serve others with the gifts of creativity, hospitality, and encouragement. In the most sincere way I’d like to say to you: Thank you for being here in this little home. I hope you find this place to be as peaceful and encouraging as time spent around our dining room table or together on our back porch. I’m so glad you’re here!! πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“
I’m savoring the change of seasons here in the Bahamas. While this is as close as we’ll get to warm hued foliage, the slight drop in temperature has been so wonderful!

This was a wonderful beginning to my Sabbath. Sometimes being the one that has to wake up early to feed the baby can be a beautiful thing. And sometimes, rest is not measured in minutes of sleep but in awe inspiring, grace filled moments. • "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
