Today’s Wagashi: Daffodil/Narcissus (Suisen) Daffodils(Suisen) are plants which have yellow or white flowers with cone-shaped centres. They are one of the earliest flowers to bloom in the spring and are often associated with springtime and rebirth. The winter-blooming suisen is also known as "sechuka", or midst-the snow flower in Japan. These Wagashi, representing this early-spring flower, are made of uiro dough, filled with kinian; yolk and white bean paste.
Oh how I miss Japanese food. Especially the seafood. 🤤 Stop daydreaming Ken and get back to reality. 😅 1️⃣&2️⃣ Kaisen Don/Sashimi Bowl (海鮮丼) @Omicho Market, Kanazawa - 8 different types of fresh and raw seafood over a bowl of sushi rice. Seafood is very fresh straight from the Sea of Japan. 🤤👍 3️⃣ Saba Shio Yaki/Grilled Mackerel (鯖塩焼き) - my all time fave. Whether in Japan or South Korea, I always make sure to eat this. 🤤😋🍱 4️⃣ Kaki Furai/Deep Fried Oysters (牡蠣フライ) - so yummy and filling. Very generous with the oyster meat and a good alternative to the usual shrimp tempura. 🤤 5️⃣ Black Cod Nabe/Hotpot (お鍋) - this is a type of hotpot usually eaten in winter. I had black cod, but any type of meat or seafood is OK. 🤤 6️⃣ Hida Gyu Kushi/Hida Beef Skewer (飛騨牛串) @Shirakawago - A type of wagyu native to Gifu Prefecture. If Kobe has Kobe beef, Gifu has their Hida beef. The beef was so tender and delicious. 🤤😋 7️⃣Yaki Dango (焼きだんご) @Shirakawago - their version of yaki dango. Grilled rice in a sweet soy glaze. 🤤😋🍡 8️⃣Kanazawa Coffee, Matcha and Apricot Pie @Kanazawa Castle - very perfect on a cold winter afternoon. 🤤😋🍵☕️
