24 May, 2017. Go with the flow (and the orange airglow) 🙏👊🙏 Thank you all for the huge number of likes you gave yesterday’s image, “Capital Capture”. I put a lot of work into shooting and editing it and seeing the panorama be received so well was rewarding. In that post I mentioned that the background sky had a bottle-green tint due to atmospheric airglow. As you can see from today’s photo airglow doesn’t just come in green. On the night I shot this there was lots of orange airglow in the sky and in other photos I’ve seen from Australia and New Zealand on the same night it was present in a large part of the Southern Hemisphere. 🌌 This single photo is from a time-lapse sequence that was captured over a one hour period. I didn’t check the tides so was concerned when I noticed the water rising during the shoot. The rock shelf that my tripod stood on was dry when the sequence started but by the time the hour was up I had to remove my shoes and socks, roll up my jeans and splash out to retrieve the camera and tripod. Despite the water’s rising level its surface stayed still and smooth for a lot of the shots, resulting in the reflected stars in the bottom third of this scene. 📷 Canon EOS 6D, Samyang 14mm @ f/2.8, 25 sec @ ISO 6400.
