Finishing off our effort that extolls these creations are beaded circular discs made by people from an outreach program, The Hillcrest Aids Center. Their work has been inspirational for many years.” *Slide screen to the left to see all photos. #thefibergoddess #piqf2017 #beautifulquilts #southafricanquilts #potteryquilts

“Our Journey”, from the Pacific International Quilt Show, was made by Pauline Barrett, Killeen TX. It was hung among a group of quilts made to shed a bright light on the world’s need for drinking water and the difficulty people have obtaining it. Pauline’s artist statement reads: “In today’s society, triviality of every day often obscures what is of greater importance. It is so hard to believe that something can be taken for granted, wasted by so many, and yet be such an invaluable lifesaving source, far out of reach to others. The vast number of women affected by an inadequate supply or lack of proper access to a clean source of water is astounding. The countless hours spent collecting water, the distance travelled, and the perilous conditions these women have to endure in order to find water on a daily basis is staggering. “Our Journey” is a thought-provoking piece drawing attention to this plight and adding a voice representing those women who cannot speak, so that all of us can hear their desperate, silent cries for help.” *Slide screen to the left to see all photos. #piqf2017 #beautifulquilts #worldwatercrises #quiltswithapurpose #weallneedwater
