let’s talk about faith for a hot sec. all my life i have desperately tried to control everything. i’ve tried to control outcomes that couldn’t possibly be predicted. i’ve tried to control other people’s actions and behavior. i’ve tried to control situations that are completely none of my business. why do i do this? probably because i’m a perfectionist and enjoy predictability. but that’s beside the point. the point is that i’m starting to learn that its not possible for me to control everything. sometimes shit happens that, no matter how hard i try, i simply can’t change. a very smart friend reminded me of The Serenity Prayer this morning: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. i’ve always been aware of this prayer, but it hit me hard today. it’s time that i start practicing it more mindfully and embracing it fully. it’s time to start letting things be, because i truly believe everything works itself out if you just trust the process and have a little faith.
