Written by Midge Ure and Bob Geldof, this single was released in response to the famine of 1983-85 in Ethiopia. Bob Geldof estimated the record would make around £70,000 but within 12 months it had raised £8 million. Featuring a huge lineup of many of the UK's biggest pop stars and bands of the time, recording together as Band Aid, this was the precursor to the Live Aid concerts. This song brings back special memories of those times, and I still love it! 🎅🌲🌊🐨🏄 Produced by Midge Ure and Trevor Horn @trevorhornmusic . A side remixed by Trevor Horn. Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?" #vinyl 12" single. 1984 Mercury Records/PolyGram Australian pressing FEED 112.

SGT PEPPER KNEW MY FATHER is a funny old thing. A straight track for track re-make of the BEATLES classic, it was an unlikely tie-up between UK indie music mag the New Musical Express and kids charity Childline. The charity component required some chart-friendly heavy hitters like WET WET WET (who delivered a no.1 single in their version of With A Little Help From My Friends), the CHRISTIANS and HUE & CRY who wouldn't usually grace the pages of the NME. But at the other extreme there was FRANK SIDEBOTTOM, who even your typical NME reader would find a liitle bit left field. In between tho, there were actually some cracking covers from the likes of the WEDDING PRESENT (Getting Better), BILLY BRAGG (She's Leaving Home), SONIC YOUTH (Within You Without You), the TRIFFIDS (Good Morning) and the FALL (A Day In The Life). Definitely worth tracking down a copy.
