The use of this technique allows for greater efficiency when under fatigue due to the use of a swing for momentum. When performed correctly, there is very little "muscling" of the movement.. below i have outlined the key points of the hybrid bar muscle-up in hopes that it may assist in the CrossFit Open beginning this week! Photo 1: -Its very important to aggresively pull down and through the bar, maintaining tension through your arch position keeping your toes behind you. Photo 2: -This is the phase this is often missed in someone who "chicken wings" their muscle ups -Once you have pulled through the bar as much as possible, start pulling yourself down and back to the bar -As you are pulling back to the bar, snap into a piked hollow with your toes raising to eye level. Photo 3: -Once in the piked hollow position, switch your glutes on AGGRESIVELY, driving your feet down. This helps bring your hips up towards the bar but also initiates the pull AROUND the bar -The closer you get your hips to the bar, the easier it is to lever yourself over. Photo 4: -Once you feel yourself coming over the bar, the pull around the bar turns into a press down on the bar. -The more you learn to press down on the bar at the top, the more your technique will hold up once fatigue hits. Video 146: scapular/shoulder motion - We hardly spend time training our body to move well, we focus on start here...finish here mentality with not being concerned how we get their in between - Try this: sit/stand up against a wall so you shoulders and head are touching (if you can touch both work on your posture first) - Keeping contact with the wall bring your Elbows to your sides and slowly bring them overhead, keeping a constant squeeze in your shoulder blades and focusing on shoulder range of motion (if arms come up work on stretching out your chest) - Work: 10 reps and incorporate them into your weekly training 2-3 times a week
Number one thing I’ve learned since diving into the world of crossfit is how important technique is... —————————————————————- poor technique=high risk of injury ☹️ good technique=even small human beings can lift a lot 💪🏼😜 ————————————————————- Now I know in the world of fitness, crossfit gets slammed all the time because of the “increased risk of injury” but if you have good coaches and listen to your body/know when to scale exercises, I promise you that you won’t regret joining the crossfit community!
