“My dog should know not to do that” one of our favourite quotes 🤦🏻♂️ If you haven’t taught your dog what to do instead, not just told it what not to do, then how is it meant to know what you want from it? We live in a very human world, most of which a dog can’t begin to comprehend why we do certain things. We should be teaching what we want from our pups, making them comfortable and rewarding them when they get things the way we like them. Yes we can step in and interrupt a dog if they are up to mischief, but once we have interrupted them we have their attention. From that point on we go into teaching them an alternative behaviour and make that more rewarding for them. Punishing a dog, for doing what is likely to be a normal dog behaviour, will create fear and confusion.
