Quais são as consequências do sedentarismo?  Se o indivíduo passa a utilizar muito um determinado órgão, ele se desenvolve, tornando-se maior, mais forte e mais sensível. Por outro lado, se o indivíduo deixar de utilizá-lo, ele sofre atrofia. Aplicando-se isso ao tema do sedentarismo pode-se dizer que ele faz minguar as estruturas e funções orgânicas enquanto o contrário, as atividades físicas, as fortalece e expande.  Assim, é de se esperar que as pessoas sedentárias apresentarão atrofias orgânicas e deficiências funcionais em relação às pessoas não sedentárias. Aquelas que têm atividades físicas e esportivas que se podem considerar “normais” e aquelas que se dedicam a exercícios físicos especiais, como os desportistas e os fisioculturistas, por exemplo, adquirem condições físicas e funcionais superiores às comuns. Ao contrário, a pessoa de vida sedentária experimenta um processo de regressão estrutural e funcional, perda de flexibilidade articular, comprometimento do funcionamento de vários órgãos e hipotrofia de fibras musculares.  Tudo isso pode ser causa de várias doenças, como, por exemplo, a diabetes mellitus, a obesidade, o aumento do colesterol, o infarto do miocárdio, além de dificultar a recuperação de muitas outras. Além disso, o sedentarismo pode acelerar o envelhecimento e, direta ou indiretamente, pode mesmo ser causa de morte súbita. I want to spend the next couple days discussing this pyramid that I made, but this is a basic overview: . Nutrition - no matter which diet method you choose, your calories must be in a deficit. Know your maintenance # and eat below. A good starting point is 250 calories below. .  Lifting/training: the more muscle you have the more you burn at rest. If you are looking to achieve more of a toned look in your arms or legs, or wherever, lifting weights will be key in this. Some people genetically have a good muscle base, most of us don't and need to spend more time lifting weights. Lifting both heavy/low rep scheme and lighter/higher reps will get us to our goals. . Recovery- this is a critical and often times over looked portion to our fitness journey. People often dontrealize how important it is until they have overtrained and their body isn't functioning like it should. We shouldn't wait till that happens. Others don't realize that the muscle growth they want is being held back because they aren't deloading in their routines. Every 4-5 weeks we should be deloading or cutting down our volume by 50% or so. . HIIT/nutritional timing/intervals - HIIT enhances the body's ability to lose fat, while boosting metabolism. It is anabolic/will help build muscle. Hiit timing can really help with the fat loss process. I encourage my clients to schedule HIIT the day after a low carb day if they are carb cycling. . Cardio- notice that cardio is at the very very very top! Most people like to swap cardio and weights. They want cardio to be right after nutrition and weights at the very very top. Most of the time this is where frustrations in the fat loss or body recomposition (getting toned) happens. I'm going to refer to some eye opening research for this in tomorrow's post. Cardio is an over played card and can really hold back certain body types from getting that fit look and building muscle and if overly used can hold back the fat loss process.
