Check out "Street Journal" (75 x 75cm) by Artist Yaz, the featured artwork of our "Artyze Street" event 2 weeks ago! Yaz delights us, on a vibrant yellowish background, with a diverse collage of prints from across periods that subtly references to the New York City -- from newspaper scrap of The Wall Street Journal, to images of the metropolitan jogging on the Brooklyn streets and the NYC Transit Police on subway platform duty. These fragments of epochs signalise how the Big Apple endured dramatic changes and vies (a word specially chosen by the artist on the piece), to rise to prominence among all states, and to attain such vibrancy. Added to the collage, are layered brushstrokes and drips of white, with reddish speckles on the yellow background. This important elaboration represents the pulsating, organic side of the metropolis -- what keeps NYC's dynamism alive, has to be the flesh and blood of the city! Take another close look at the art piece and admire the understated motherly figure within the street's strenuosity, which re-evaluates the very identity of women as capable beings and central players in the birth of modern NYC after the 80s－90s' Second-Wave Feminist Movement.
Today we #butchered this #steer. He has had the #bestlife a #cow could ask for. He had gotten grain 2 times a day, and plenty of ear scratches. We do not take this job lightly. But today this cow put almost 500 lbs of #meet in our #freezer. That is apart of the #homesteadinglife and it is the life we choose to live. Every #viable#part of this #animal is being used. We will #flesh and #tan the #hide to make #leather. My #husband @jhacker5114 and I will then use the leather to make #knife#sheaths and other things.
