A few days ago Jason from Jayce Lab, a plant based meal delivery service, in Orange County, decided to help lend a hand by donating meals for the staff & volunteers after hearing & seeing all the tragedy from the fire in the news. "I knew the workload for everyone would increase due to the fire & ready to go meals would save everyone the trouble of having to step out of the building or bringing their own food", said Jason. Jason spent an entire night prepping and cooking the meals before leaving early the next morning to make the 2 hour drive to Ventura County. "As a single business owner, it was the very least that I could do especially with all the lives that were saved & animals taken in to be cared for." We are so grateful to Jason for his hard work and support. The ready-to-eat meals really helped us get through some long days and nights! Thank you Jason! @jaycelab #vegan #hsvc #ojai #ojaivalley #humanesociety #orangecounty #foodforthrought #foodie #gratitude #ventura #venturacounty
In the last couple days we have watched many animals be reunited with their families. Many folks had not seen their since being evacuated, while others only found out they had homes to return to as recently as today. It is hard to imagine all that our community has endured since fires broke out just 10 days ago. Everyone we meet has a story to tell of hope and survival and all of us at the Humane Society of Ventura County are committed to the healing process. There is no better feeling than seeing the look on the face of both the animals and their families when they are reunited. We know that it hasn't been easy and that many of you who placed your animals in our care are not in a place to bring your animals home. We would like to reassure you all that your animals are safe and we will continue to care for them like they are our own for as long as need be. You can donate to our ongoing animal rescue efforts at www.hsvc.org/thomasfire. #theresnoplacelikehome #hsvc #ojai #ojaivalley #thomasfireojai #ventura #venturacounty #venturacountyfire #humanesocietyofventuracounty #horse #horsesofinstagram #rescuehorses #rescuehorsesofinstagram #ojaistrong #venturastrong

#repost @hsvc_ojai (@get_repost) ・・・ With fires devastating areas throughout southern California the affects of the blaze is reaching past burn zones into the air we all breathe. Animals are affected by bad air quality in many of the same ways humans are. While it is not possible for every animal to be kept indoors 24 hours a day we do recommend if you have the ability to keep your animals indoors to do so. In the meantime here are some helpful tips to keep your animals safe while air quality remains poor. It is extremely important for pets to have fresh cool water at all times. If you have large outdoor animals they will need regular checks to make sure their water is clean and not coated in layers of ash or debris. If you have an animal that is brachycephalic, or has a short nose, such as Pugs, Persians, Boston Terriers, Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Pekingese or Bulldogs they should be kept indoors at all times. If your animals has a pre-existing respiratory condition please keep them indoors as well if at all possible as they are already at a higher risk as our animal that are very young and the elderly. We recommend keeping any walks or outdoor activity to be kept to an absolute minimum. Do not let your animals over exert themselves in any way. While Fido may not understand why his daily walks have been cut short it is in their best interest for them to remain calm and relaxed until the smoke has subsided. Keep a close eye on your pets and watch out for any allergy-type symptoms such as runny noses, or if their eyes seem irritated. Be on the lookout for any behavior changes or if your pet stops eating or becomes nauseous. If their is any cause for concern please contatn your veterinarian immediately. #hsvc #humanesocietyventuracounty #firesafety #ventura #santabarbara #thomasfire #thomasfireojai #petsafety #cat #dog #venturafire #ojaivalley #venturacounty #catsofinstagram
This photo means so much to us on so many levels. Three friends from San Diego had been following our rescue efforts on Instagram (HSVC_Ojai) and knew they wanted to help. One story that really struck them was that of long time resident Sequoia, a beautiful Great Dane mix with a heart of gold who has lived at the shelter since april of 2016. Kristin, Carli, and Olivia were able to raise $1000 and drove up to Ojai to hand deliver the cash along with other supplies. They stayed to visit with the animals and during that time was when they met Sequoia. They recognized her immediately from her photos and were so excited to have an opportunity to make her acquaintance. Volunteer Coordinator Amanda Volden helped make the introduction, and Sequoia was very happy to make some new friends! To make the moment even more memorable they had brought with them a pretty pink bandanna just for her. For those of you who follow the Humane Society of Ventura County regularly know what a special moment this was! Thank you Kristin, Carli, and Olivia for your generosity and for thinking of this special girl! #hsvc #ojai #ojaivalley #ojaistrong #venturastrong #thomasfire #thomasfireojai #thomasfireventura #venturacounty #805 #vccoast #venturafire #losangeles #santabarbara #californiafire #donate #dogsofinstagram #dog #sandiego

Soul Horse, a private nonprofit located in Beaumont,Texas, was making a run to Colorado to assist a herd of horses in need when they first learned about the wildfires in Southern California. They immediately new they wanted to help and started making calls to see how they could offer their assistance to horses displaced by the raging fires. After some research they came across the Humane Society of Ventura County and hit the road with their truck and trailer out to Ojai. When they arrived, Jesse, Lacey, and Alan brought with them a huge trailer filled with items to help us care for the over 80 horses that were housed at the shelter, as well as the numerous horses our Humane Officers were assisting throughout the county. They brought feed, shavings, lead ropes, and harnesses, all as a donation to our animal rescue efforts. We are all so moved by their dedication and diligence to help when duty calls and found it fitting to share their inspiring mission statement: Soul Horse...Dedicated to the love of the horse, simply for their existence. Their beauty. . . Their grace. . . And all that they embody. Thank you Soul Horse for your generosity and we wish you all the best of luck with the beautiful work you do. Happy trails! @soulhorsetx #hsvc #ojai #ojaivalley #texas #venturafire #thomasfire #horserescue #horsesofinstagram #animalrescue #thomasfireojai #horse #california #

Please note that if you would would like to visit the shelter our visitnig hours hours are between 10-5. We can not perform any adoptions at this time. This is why we help. ❤ #repost @hsvc_ojai (@get_repost) ・・・ This is Casper and his goats. Casper is an Akbash, a rare breed of dog who specializes in livestock protection. Casper was brought to the shelter last week when his home in Rose Valley had to be evacuated along with 5 other dogs, 3 cats, and 2 goats, all of which are still being housed at the Shelter in Ojai. Akbash are working dogs and only happy when they have something to protect and so Casper was placed in a pen with his goats so he could watch over them. This wasn't the first time we had met Casper. In fact, this beautiful dog was first brought to the Humane Society of Ventura County last spring when he was just 4 months old. Over the months we have watched Casper grow up during his regular visits into the hardworking and confident dog he is today. This morning we got word from Casper's family that the property he lives on was spared by the fire and in the next couple days he along with his brothers and sisters will return home. It has been through the support of our community that we have been able to offer a safe haven to animals affected by the fire. However our work is not done. Many of the animals in our care have lost their homes and it may be months before their families can take them back. We are committed to continuing to care for those displaced until our services are no longer required. Every animal who has been placed at the shelter for safekeeping has been done so at no charge to the families. As a private non profit that receives no funding from the city, county or state we rely entirely on the support of our community. ONE HUNDRED percent of your donations stay right here to benefit directly the animals in our community. #hsvc #akbash #livestockguardiandogs #animalrescue #thomasfire #thomasfireojai #humanesocietyventuracounty #dogsofinstagram #805 #rescuedogsofinstagram

A very special thank you to Porta-Stor in Ventura who just dropped off a large storage container to our site in Ojai! Porta-Stor has generously offered use of the container for three months free of charge to help store all the items we have received in the past week from across the nation. Besides the 84 boxes of donations we recieved yesterday, the United States Postal Service made 4 deliveries this morning in the back of their pick-up truck (thanks Gilbert!) and within the past hour, not one, but two UPS trucks made large deliveries as well! We are beyond words to express how grateful we are for the support we have received since fires broke out on December 4th. Thank you all for your contributions to the shelter and the animals in our care! #hsvc #humanesocietyventuracounty #firesafety #ventura #santabarbara #thomasfire #thomasfireojai #petsafety #cat #dog #venturafire #ojaivalley #venturacounty
