Elephants and orphanages don't tend to mix often. This photo is of our orphanage Deputy Director Clifton Shipway looking after an injured male elephant in the jungle behind our property. For more on this story take a look at @cliftonshipway on Instagram.
Day 2: It seems the young elephant is doing a little better today. It is surreal to feed this majestic animal; it would gently wrap it’s trunk around my arm before taking the bananas, apples and leaves I was offering it. I couldn’t help but feel like he felt safer and settled today than yesterday, perhaps he was just getting used to the human contact... perhaps it was more than that. Hundreds of locals have come over the last 30 hours, offering prayers of support, fresh produce from their gardens and promises of continued assistance as long as the animal should need it. As they looked on in reverence at this huge animal I was pretty overwhelmed by the atmosphere of love and community that was out there in the middle of the cold jungle. I count myself blessed to have been a part of this and will continue to update you as time goes on. #indianelephant#elephant#elephants#indianelephant#jungle#banbasa
