Chaco Culture National Park, sacred to the ancestral Pueblo people, and their descendants. Many Chacoan ruins have been aligned to capture the solar and lunar cycles, requiring generations of astronomical observations and centuries of skillfully coordinated construction. 👽#WeAreNotAlone #indigenousland
Navigating to the falls at 2:30am, 30 degree weather, the sky filled with stars 🌌 and complete darkness within the Canyon. It was quite an adventure with my girlfriend. She was a bit scared and it’s understandable, but I was so determined to capture this picture I had been dreaming of. I got far better results than expected! Thanks to my beautiful girlfriend for exploring nature with me. I’ve been growing this strong connection with nature, and I’m learning to appreciate it more and more each day. It’s part of my growing process as a human being. Truly grateful for these moments 🙏🏼 #nofilter

Happened across this toadfish on Oombunghi Beach yesterday morning. The only living fish amongst dozens of juvenile reef fish like cod, bream and angelfish washed up or shaken out of nets. I tried to get him moving back in the water to no avail, and left him in the lapping shallows to sort himself out if he pleased. Picking our way along the beach, an elder fishing there pointed out a few species and even had a baby grey shark take his handline before shaking it loose, saying they were fairly common in the bay. Even after the loss of dozens of hectares of mangroves from the area and the massive quantities of silt from the dredging of the channel, Russell told us dugongs, dolphins, rays and turtles were still all spotted in these waters, perhaps not as frequently as in the past but I found it encouraging nonetheless. We spoke about shark and ray fishing and I was interested to know about the meals prepared from these animals. The liver is removed first and eaten fresh and raw (guess who knew the benefits of shark and fish liver oil long before you bought it in capsules?) The inside of the skin is scraped off and made into rissoles (deep fried and apparently amazing) and the filleted meat is cooked on hot coals, no scrap goes to waste. We talked about the changing landscape, sustainability and the history of the people living off the land. He told us that in his custom it was taboo to kill an animal unless it was for food. A little while ago he said, some young boys were picking off minar birds with a bb gun down on the beach, the elders found out and forced the boys to eat all of them 😂 • • • #toadfish #beach #farnorthqueensland #yarrabah #oombunghi #gunggandji #traditional #indigenousculture #alwayswasalwayswillbe #indigenousland #shutupandlisten #sharkskin #sustainablefishing #catchandrelease #saveourseas #savetheturtles #greatbarrierreef #citizensgbr

These two children are from the indigenous Aeta people living in Sitio Burog, Bamban, Tarlac. Last January 2018, the Philippine government held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Clark New City, supposedly a model city showcasing sustainable development. However, the 95-square kilometer city will take away thousands of hectares of ancestral lands, including the site of the village of Burog, from the Aetas and will displace thousands of indigenous peoples. When we talk about development, it is always prudent to ask the question "for whom?" This should serve as an eye-opener for us that development for some should not come at the expense of the rights of others. And that sometimes, when your eyes are opened, it is a sin to close them afterwards. “There have always been indigenous peoples in the spaces we call home, and there always will be.” Kanyon Sayers-Roods Part of showing up for indigenous people is acknowledging their land, and the history of oppression that's come with colonialism. Stop identifying as immigrants. We have thousands of years on these lands, before anyone else set foot on here. A border imposed by the Europeans who stole our lands, does not make us immigrants. If you have another continent that you can point to as your motherland, then it is YOU who is the immigrant. We are Nican Tlaca (indigenous) people, who are exploited on our own lands by white supremacist.
