[Men do not get to determine women's rights.] This is a simple statement. And yet, so many men believe that they are entitled to determining the rights of women. There are men making decisions about healthcare that will never affect them. There are men making decisions about whether to defund organizations that provide reproductive health services (ex.: Planned Parenthood). There are men deciding whether women should have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies. Rich male politicians are making decisions that will never directly affect them. Rich male politicians think that their opinions about abortion and reproductive health issues matter more than the women who have actually experienced these things. That's dangerous.

I have been deciding if I want to share my story or not, but fuck it, here it goes. A few weeks ago, I found a lump in my breast and at 21 I panicked and when I realized I couldn't explain it away, I went to the doctor. After a long day of appointments and testing, results was inconclusive. Later I got a mammogram (a test most would consider 20 years too early). And after a very terrifying day, my results concluded I was cancer free. This was exactly one week ago. Get tested, even if it's just to ease what you think might be paranoia, because actually having cancer would have been much more terrifying to deal with. #breastcancer#breastcancerawareness#cancer#gettested#plannedparenthood#istandwithpp
Being a single mother is not always a matter of choice. Life events such as divorce and death are the most common reasons. Raising a child isn't easy, imagine alone? It changes your financial balance and what usually is divided by two it gets carried by one. They work twice as hard as most families. Single mothers often wait on child support that never really comes, it's challenging! Single moms sometimes (especially in the beginning of one of those "life events") feel lonely, surrounded by obligations, worries, decision pressure, guilt and more. They worn out emotionally, spiritually and even physically. Let's not forget the discrimination from society with those who get pregnant and aren't married. How can single mothers receive less respect from doing a job for two? How can single fathers be treated the opposite, like some short of celebrity admired by society? [of course there are different cases.] You know, I could write about this for hours, these women are often seeing as weak, but are they? Two of my Aunts were single mothers, their story isn't pretty, but they are strong women who struggled a lot and overcame the difficulties, it turned out to be the best for them and the kids. I was a child when that happened but I do remember tears, hard work, I remember their children having to cook and do house work as young children because they couldn't afford any help, and my aunts working multiple jobs to bring food to the table. Reality of many women. Their courage, unconditional love for their children and themselves amazes me. They are a whole model of what being a woman is about; we are strong and we can accomplish anything! In the photo I have Mariana and her son Mikael, I don't see them as victims, yet I know it is hard, but luckily that little buddy has as his mommy one of the feast and strongest woman I know. Single mothers deserve respect and we shall give it to them.
