"The greatest thing I was taught was that I have a complete, full, isolated, but sovereign identity. Your sovereignty can only be given to you as a child by your mother, by her identifying you as a complete, total individual. What you call 'grit,' the strength of the identity, is given to you by the father. It is all done in the first eleven years." - Yogi Bhajan This is why I feel yoga for the mother and the child is so important. A yoga practice for everyone in the family from conception to adulthood can be a powerful tool to guide us through life.
These past couple of days have been ROUGH for Joel and I, we evacuated our house due to the lilac fire and packed everything that would fit into our car. Thankfully we are safe now and back in our home. It makes me grateful to have a husband that looks after me so well, and amazing friends that welcomed us with open arms into their home. #ittakesavillage

MEDITAION AND BREASTFEEDING: Breastfeeding moms are masters of multitasking. AM I right? Most moms, including myself can admit to scrolling social media, cooking dinner, or reading a book while breastfeeding their baby. Although breastfeeding and meditation are rarely talked about together, meditation can do amazing things for breastfeeding moms. Some of these powerful reasons might convince you to take a few minutes to slow down everyday, whether it's during your actual breastfeeding sessions or not. These benefits include decreased stress, to increased self-awareness and a more balanced milk supply. If you choose to meditate during your actual nursing sessions your letdown reflex and overall supply might benefit from this calming and connecting for you and your baby Also regular meditation can keep your cortisol and adrenaline levels in check. Additionally, oxytocin and prolactin — the hormones produced through breastfeeding are heightened through meditation, which can be especially beneficial for moms who struggle with a slow letdown. For me breastfeeding and meditation have become my daily retreats. I look forward to the quiet space I can create for myself while breastfeeding my son. Do you have a mediation practice? What does your breastfeeding multitasking look like?
MINDFUL MOTHERING: Why do we think of idilic images of mothers and babies running in fields of sunflowers when we hear the phrase, “mindful mothering”? What is mindful Mothering anyways. In daily reality, the practical tools of mindfulness are designed to bring us fully into the moment with an open mind and open heart. Mindfulness helps make us ready to accept the endless laundry, exhaustion and loneliness, as well as the connection, tenderness and joy we find on our journeys through motherhood. Mindfulness is the idea of being aware of what is happening around us and being present to whatever that moment brings. We can bring this into our mothering by practicing being present. This is easier said than done. I know i find myself scrolling through Instagram while breastfeeding or thinking about my errands while diaper changing. Although not always easy in our hype stimulating world. being present to our experiences as mothers is so rewarding. Being mindful can allow us to approach situations as a mom with compassion a curiosity rather than immediate reaction. How can you practice Mindful Mothering today?
