TEA TUESDAY ☕️🍵 Here at Ippuku, we're all about tea! So each Tuesday we are going to share with you our unique and おいしい teas that we serve in store! First up... GENMAICHA 玄米茶 Genmaicha ("brown rice tea") is a blend of green tea and brown rice. Here at Ippuku we use Sencha green tea! 🌿 The Genmaicha blend originated from roasting old rice from Kagami mocha (a Japanese new year decoration) and adding it to traditional green tea🍃 Genmaicha can be described as aromatic, mild and slightly nutty in flavour. It is often nicknamed "popcorn tea" as some of the rice grains pop! It is even said to help with an unsettled tummy!😻 Because of its savoury flavour it tastes superb with sweet treats - look out in store at Ippuku Tea House where soon we will be serving a Genmaicha Creme Brûlée 🍰😋 Genmaicha and a collection of other Japanese teas are available in store at Ippuku Tea House, York, or online at www.ippukutea.co.uk #tea#teatuesday#japan#japanesetea#ippukutea#ippukuteahouse#genmaicha#greentea
A cup of tea for a mild winter Tuesday. This is a cup of Japanese Hibiki-an Sencha that I stole from my husband’s extensive supplies. It’s sweet, herbal and mild, perfect for a grey winter day. The cup is my recent acquisition from a flea market. I loved the design and the colours... but the surprise happened when I flipped the cup. The mark says ‘Made in occupied Japan’. Apparently, all goods made in Japan after WWII for export to America, had to be stamped an identified as ‘Made in occupied Japan’.
