Just when I thought I couldn't love peanut butter any more, I find a place that sells 960gram tubs of the stuff! 😍❤️ It is safe to say a bought a few (4). Costco, you made my day. Buying certain foods (those with long periods before their "use by" or "best before" date) in bulk can be an extremely cost- and time-effective way of grocery shopping and ensuring you always have nutritious options available at home. This jar of natural peanut butter (100% peanuts) was approx. 2/3 the cost (/100g) of the same thing in regular supermarkets. My trolley included several other items including 4kg of oats and a massive bag of frozen bananas ☺️#happydays
Rice and beans. A simple, frugal, healthy staple food. ::: Eat at home more and eat out less. Eat to live, don’t live to eat. Whatever makes you healthier, masajes you sicker. And if it doesn’t make you richer, it makes you poorer. If you’re not getting better, you are getting worse. ::: Eat more plant-based meals and get healthier. Your body deserves it. And your wallet will love it! . . . #frugal#simple#vegan#plantbased#legumes#riceandbeans#healthyfood#eattolive

Rice and beans. The staple of simple, frugal, healthy living. ::: One of my colleagues just came back from attending the Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives Conference in Napa, California. It is a leadership conference nutrition science, healthcare, and the culinary arts. Most of the faculty were from the Harvard School of Public Health. ::: My colleague (who is no way near vegan) said that he learned a lot at the conference including: 1) whole food plant-based diet is among the healthiest 2) dairy is definitely linked to cancer (IGF-1), has a lot of dioxins and environmental toxins, and is not healthy 3) plant based diets have supply more than enough protein as long as caloric needs are met 4) ketogenic high fat low carb diets are not healthy 5) “paleo” diets are really mostly vegetarian diets because early man ate mostly gathered greens, fruits, and nuts (with rare/ocasional hunted game meat) ::: Most of my colleagues are surprised that plants can provide all the protein and amino acids that we need. It goes to show much how little doctors learn about nutrition in medical school (which is pretty much nada). . . . #vegan#greekgigantebeans#beans#legumes#rice#nutritionalyeast#hempseeds#whatveganseat#vegansofig#veganfoodshare#healthykitchenshealthylives#harvardschoolofpublichealth#lifestylemedicine#foodasmedicine#plantbased#wfpb#paleo#notodairy#keto#highprotein#cleaneating#healthyfood

Been doing some research on soy. Organic non-gmo is medicinal. Here’s what science tells us. Article by Dr. Michelle McMacken @veg_md. #wellsaid 🌿💪 BASICS: Soy contains isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen that is 1000 times weaker than human estrogen & does not behave exactly like human estrogens in our bodies. Isoflavones block some of estrogen's effects & mimic others, generally resulting in health benefits; they also have antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties. Soy has the highest protein & fat content of any legume & is high in iron & fiber. . WOMEN’S HEALTH: Soy has been shown to prevent breast cancer in the amounts consumed in Asia. A 2008 review showed that women averaging 1cup of soymilk/ 1/2cup of tofu per day had a 30% lower risk of developing breast cancer vs women who avoid soy. Soy has also been shown in many studies to reduce the risk of recurrence in breast cancer survivors. A recent study showed that breast cancer survivors who consumed the most soy had a 21% lower risk of dying of any cause over the 9-yr study, compared with low-soy consumers. Soy reduces the risk of endometrial cancer & can reduce menopausal hot flashes. . MEN'S HEALTH: A large 2010 systematic review showed that soy does not affect testosterone levels, sperm concentration, or sperm quality. Soy may lower the risk of prostate cancer by up to 50%. . THYROID: Soy does not affect the thyroid in people with normal thyroid function and iodine levels. Whether or not you eat soy, you should meet your daily iodine needs (150mcg/day). If you take thyroid hormone, you may need the dose adjusted if you change your soy intake. . CARDIOVASCULAR RISK: Soy lowers blood pressure & LDL cholesterol. . REALITY CHECK: Some worry about estrogen & GMOs/pesticides from soy, but most dietary estrogen comes from dairy & meat products. Unlike soy phytoestrogens, animal estrogens DO mimic human estrogen in our bodies. Similarly, most GMO soy is used to feed chicken, pigs, & cattle, which
