The advantages are that you have community buy in, ongoing relationships, the opportunity for in-kind donations, and a steady supply of funds. The disadvantages? Same as with the individual donors - you've got to know people so you can convince them you're driving this organisation places, and you've got to do a lot of hustling/cold calling for this to come together. Even for the biggest and most credible organisations, business relationships can often take years to nurture. Five: Pursue funding applications. More on these soon! The advantages are nice lump sums to play with, the disadvantages are not knowing where to look, missing out on eligibility requirements, and the admin. So with all this said, how do you choose which model is right for you? You may have some idea already, but consider how a combination of a few of these models might work for your non profit too, and keep doing research. The more you can diversify where your funding comes from the stronger you will be. Keep changing up your plans as new opportunities come to light, and stay across what grants come up in your region.
