ALASKA PHOTO ADVENTURE Spruce, hemlock and cedar, covered in old man’s beard and shrouded in clouds, is the epitome of Southeast Alaska. Capturing the essence of this amazing land is best done by concentrating on the details, however, sometimes the clouds just speak and you know the composition is right. This image, to me, speaks volumes about the Tongass Rainforest, so full of life at every level, right down to the sea and below. It is difficult to leave, yet again, but I know I will return. I spent the weekend on a glacier travel course, learning crevasse rescue and how to identify hazards. We practiced our skills on Athabasca's north face glacier, loosely following in the footsteps of the two climbers pictured here. It was my first time in crampons, traveling on rope, and on a glacier. It was a good time!
