"Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman." Clarissa Pinkola Estes Ph. D. Women Who Run with the Wolves 📷: My daughter Angeline (wild woman in training)
I walked out of my old studio today, away from the boxes and unfinished packing and headed toward the trees. They are magnificent and strong trees, draped and softened by Spanish moss. I stood, watching their movement and the light filtering through and was called to a memory of my grandmother brushing my hair. She told me it was made of spun gold. Her hands were careful and comforting and I could not keep my eyes open. I kept walking and remembering, longing for the feeling of that moment to revisit me. It’s easy to imagine that if we start making more money or if we get that degree, finish that book, travel to Asia, etc, then something will be different. We won’t feel not-enough anymore, we won’t feel lonely, we won’t be as shy, we won’t question our decisions. - - The truth is that after each of the outward things we accomplish, nothing will really change. After that thing gets crossed off, there will be all the other things next on our list. - - We will continue to use the same thinking we’re using now after our next accomplishment. Life is actually challenging. It’s not easy, and it’s not without pain. There isn’t someone in a big house somewhere overlooking the ocean who is just soaking it all in. - - Our path in life is to connect more deeply with our true nature and essence. To deeply appreciate our own inner worth and then share the gift of ourselves with the world. We don’t need more adventures, degrees, or other bragging rites. We need only recognize we have everything we need right now and to not shrink away from that realization.
