Oxalic acid varroa mite treatment. You need a generator and an air compressor to operate the bazooka (vaporizer). It is strongly recommended to use protective equipment including an organic vapour respirator mask and chemical proof gloves. The Surrey bees are wrapped up and ready for the rain! #varroa#oxalicacid#beekeeping#honeybee#surrey#canada
24 hr mite check after yesterday's OAV treatment. All the dark tiny dots are dead mites. More will continue dying and due to their life cycle, I will continue treatments the next 2.5 weeks. Varroa mites can kill entire bee colonies, especially over winter. I'm trying to knock them out before winter hits us. #oav#oxalicacid#varroa#beekeeper#bees#honeybees#savethebees
Swipe! .. Tidelines caused by exposure to water for a longer period of time can be quite a thorn in the eye. In order to remove these dark tidelines I treated the wood by bleaching the lines using a 10% oxalic acid solution. The solution is applied using a brush and left to sit for about a minute. The bleaching can be aided and sped up by introducing heat. It took about 3 applications to achieve the results shown above. After the treatment the surface is wiped with a way cloth to remove any acid, left which might leave a white residue.
