Günaydın. Bugün uyumak istemeyen küçük bir kızın hikayesine konuk oluyoruz. Hikaye şöyle başlıyor: "Bir zamanlar küçük bir kız vardı. Güneş batmasına rağmen uyumak istemezdi..." Uyumak istemediğini söyler ama ailesi pijamalarını giymesini söyler ona. Sonra yüzünü yıkar ve dişlerini fırçalar. Yatağına tırmanır ve yatar. Anne ve babasına soruyor: "Dünyadaki herşey uyur mu?" Onlar da köpeklerinin uyuduğunu söyler. Kedi uyuyor. Yarasaları soruyor ve onlar uyumaz diyor küçük kız. Balinalar uyuyor. Coming down from the Valentine's high. Ironically, only after having our babe did we start celebrating the day. We got to create our own little Valentine, and she is awesome. I love our family of three, but I've got major jealousy for the family in #sleeplikeatiger. Pamela Zagarenski's illustrations make me want to crawl inside this family's house, or completely redecorated my own home, and wear crowns all day and night. And the cleverness of the bedtime parenting skills - I'm obviously lacking. I made my babe a crown, and while she was interested in the creation, she was smarter than me and knows this book too well... and went running in the other direction when it was completed. #smartkid#pamelazagarenski#marylogue#caldecotthonor
Today's inspiration-- The Friend Ship by Kat Yeh, illustrated by Chuck Groenink, and The Whisper by Pamela Zagarenski. One of my resolutions this year is to focus on my children's illustration portfolio, which has been languishing a bit lately. These two will jumpstart my creativity! #kidlit#kidlitart#childrensillustration#chuckgroenink#pamelazagarenski
Oh, toddlers and their desire to stay up forever. . "Sleep Like A Tiger" by Mary Logue and illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski has been one of our go-to bedtime stories recently. My son has been requesting it and I adore the parents' method of getting their child, who insists she is not tired, to fall fast asleep. . When a little girl tells her parents she is not tired at bedtime, instead of insisting she go to sleep, the parents agree and tell her that she can stay up for as long as she'd like. Their only request is that she go about her bedtime rituals none-the-less. She gets into her pjs, brushes her teeth, washes her face, and climbs under the warm sheets, all while discussing other animals and their sleep habits with her parents. It feels good to wash her face and her sheets are warm and cozy. As she drifts off, she imagines herself like the animals- in a deep sleep like the bear, curled up like the snail, in a warm spot like the cat, and soon enough the little girl is fast asleep. . I'm quickly learning as we approach 2.5 years old, that I have to choose my battles with my toddler. He doesn't want to eat? Fine. He doesn't want to sleep? That's okay. A little patience and creativity to ward off a tantrum go a long way. I really love how the parents approach a night where their daughter is just "not tired." Also, the way other animals are tied into the story, with sleep being something that we all share, is a great way to get a child thinking about how we aren't so different from other animals after all. The dream-like illustrations in this book are the perfect compliment to the imaginative text. . I first read about this magical little book on @happily.ever.elephants, if you aren't yet following her account, be sure to check it out! She gives wonderful recommendations.
Hello, everybody! Today, we read The Whisper by Pamela Zagarenski, a story about a little girl learning the power and magic of her imagination. A little girl who loves to read is loaned a magical book by her teacher. But unbeknownst to her, the words of the book fly out and away on the girl's path home, so when she goes to read it, she is confused and disappointed to find that it only has pictures! How can she read a story without any words? But the girl hears a whisper telling her that she doesn't need the words; she can use her imagination to look at the pictures and create a story all her own! This was a very cool book with some great elements: with enormous and finely detailed illustrations, plus unobtrusive text and open-ended stories, the book invites the reader to do the very same thing as the girl: use their imagination to create a imaginative tale of their own. The story, message and art all support this concept well. Length could be an issue for baby bookworms, and even JJ began to wiggle towards the end. For the most part, however, this is a beautiful book that encourages children to think outside the box and create worlds in their heads, and we liked it. Baby Bookworm approved!
