Today is the anniversary of one of the most horrific events I have ever experienced. What was supposed to be the perfect ending to the best vacation I I have ever been on turned quickly into a tragic nightmare. I have never been so TERRIFIED and traumatized in my entire life. No one should ever have to witness or go through what happened to those who were there that night. I am so very grateful and lucky to be alive and that my friends and I made it out safely... Playa Del Carmen was the most perfect stress-free vacation surrounded by the best food, nature, sunrises and sunsets, friends and good vibes I’ve ever been on until that night. Before anyone knew it, we were caught in the middle of a cartel war. Around 2:30am, a round of gun shots were fired in the small crowded beach club. At first, everyone around me and I thought it was fireworks. A few moments later, another round of of gunshots happened and this time I saw sparks above me and I knew this wasn’t fireworks so I immediately dropped down to the ground. The sheer panic and confusion of everyone laying face down, on the ground, laying on top of each other. I had someone lay on top of me and cover me. Seeing everyone drop like flies, complete and utter chaos.
