Western Shield Spiny-tailed Gecko (Strophurus wellingtonae) photographed near Laverton, WA. These geckoes are superb climbers moving with ease throughout low shrubbery as you can see in the background. They are nocturnal but instead of seeking shelter during the day inside trees and under bark like most arboreal (tree-dwelling) geckoes, they rest on the branches and rely on their superb camouflage to remain hidden from predators. Just look at how similar the colour and pattern is to the branch it is on.
