Staying cool after a hot lunchtime! Left to right orphan elephants: Kakaro, Kasewe, Njanji, Mulisani, and Mkaliva hanging out in the mud at nursery 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘 - For around 10 years DSWF has been supporting the @game_rangers_international Elephant Orphanage Project in Zambia to care for orphans like these; victims of poaching for ivory. The Nursery provides the round-the-clock care needed as the little ones grow and recover from the trauma of losing their families. - These little ones are still in need of continuous care and bottle feeding. Once weaned, the elephants will be relocated to the project’s Release Facility in Kafue National Park. Here they will be protected while they begin a process of learning to be fully integrated back into the wild. During regular bush walks, they will come into contact with some of the wild herds that they will one day re-join. - DSWF has been supporting conservation in Zambia for many years. You can help rescue, rehabilitate and return orphaned elephants to the wild by donating, find out more via the link in our Bio. - - - Thank you @game_rangers_international for the video #gamerangersinternational#elephants#elephant#babyelephants#dswf#dswf_conservation #orphanelephants#nursery#playinginthemud#savingwildlife#zambia#wildlife#wildlifeaddicts#saveelephants#cuteanimals#protectelephants#mud#madbath

Snaring a real issue all over Africa. Just one of the many layers we are documenting for our @edgeofexistencefilm documentary. This elephant died because of a snare, he had to be put down. Seeing a young elephant calf in such agony and then witnessing him having to be put down was truly heart wrenching. And the anti-poaching team have had to do this with other wildlife, this is not the first time. If this problem is not addressed it will continue to affect wildlife, and people alike. Human wildlife conflict is an issue that many have researched, but one that is often ignored because it is so complex and drastic measures are needed - action needs to be taken.
