Insights|Asia|Haryana|India . Sexual violence has gone more than rampant in India's rural communities particularly in Haryana, where about 733 rapes occurred in 2011 (two a day.) The latest report of such is that of a six-year-old girl who while her father was away at work was abducted, raped and killed on Saturday. Her body was found close to her home. Her parents demand justice, as police have begun questioning suspects. • Protests have sprung out heavily in the community, calling for an end to rape and all forms of violence against women. People are particularly vexed by the lawmaking process. In what is considered a very patriarchal society, older men, make the rules and handle the running of the community. Some of these leaders believe that the reason sexual violence has gotten so rampant in the area is due to lewd images being seen in movies, magazines etc. Worse than even the ancient patriarchal dictatorship that swarms These communities is the general attitude toward women. • A mark to remember the horrors of sexual violence in India would be the Delhi bus rape of 2012 where a 23-year-old Physiotherapy intern, was beaten and raped in a bus by the men present, including the driver and later died due to lack of sufficient care and though one of her murderers was brought to justice, the death penalty has not solved the ever-growing problem of abuse and rape. There is clearly a need for gainful education on social justice and equality in India among others in countries around the world and the plight of women here, serves as a reminder. • • • • #toomuchstory#news#imsights#asia#india#haryana#jyotisingh#sad#horrid#rape#abuse#sexualviolence#stopsexualviolence#stopsexualabuse#enough#women#men#communities#families#nations#respect#equality
Thank you @terrycrews and thank you to all the brave and good men who stand up against culturally sanctioned harassment and abuse. “Men must stand up and say this harassment, this abuse, these assaults are wrong." - - - - -Regram from @HeForShe “Thanks @terrycrews for being #heforshe by taking a stand for what is right. #endabuse #silencebreakers #metooregram @time: "@terrycrews has a piece of advice for men: “Until men stand up and say this harassment, this abuse, these assaults are wrong, nothing will change.” TIME recognized Crews by naming him one of the Silence Breakers, TIME’s Person of the Year, for speaking out about sexual assault and harassment. To the children of Alabama and to all other sexually abused children in America, if no adult has ever told you "sorry" for what happened to you, then let us be the first. We hear you. We believe in you. This should have never happened to you. #childrenmatter #stopsexualabuse #alabama #vote #alabamasenaterace #rightsideofhistory #raiseawareness #choosekindness #childhoodshouldnthurt #speakup #breakthesilence #givehope #hope #aspcc #americanspcc
I can honestly say how amazed I am that victims are being blamed for the disgusting actions of their oppressors. What's sickens me the most is when you blame children , people are sick and there should be more counseling for those people. You have to be mentally ill to even view abuse in that perspective. Am I the only one that feels this way ? I can't be . . . . #nomoreshamechallenge #advocate #recovery #mindfulness #lettertobully #makeadifference #speakout #positivethinking #l4l #recovery #metoo #believeme #metoomvmt @theshaderoom #metoo . #noshame #molestationawareness #molestation #sexualabuse #pedophelia #saveourdaughters #protectourgirls #stopsexualabuse #stoppedophilia #sexpredator #nomoreshame #molestationsurvivor #breakthesilence
I’ve shared a lot of fake smiles in my life, but this is not one of them. . I am not ashamed. Not anymore. But, I was. For a very long time. I spent almost twenty years of my life keeping a secret because I thought nobody would believe me. I thought I was dirty and broken. I thought it was my fault. . When I was in high school, I was sexually abused for almost two years by a man nine years my senior. A man who was respected in the community and trusted by everyone, including my family. At the time, I didn't even realize what was happening to me was sexual abuse. . He never forced himself on me. He told me he loved me. I was young and insecure, and I couldn't believe that somebody thought I was special. I was excited to have a secret that nobody knew about. I knew that something about it felt wrong, but I didn’t know what to do. . It took a long time for me to understand that this man preyed upon me. He took advantage of the trust he had built up with me and my family and slowly found more and more time to get me alone so he could abuse me. . A couple of years back, I filed formal charges against my abuser and this year I finally faced him in court. While I did not find legal justice, I did find the justice that I was looking for and needed to heal from this abuse. . His lies and abuse are no longer my burden to bear. Being in that court room and speaking my truth finally relieved me of a weight I had been carrying for my entire adult life. . There is a reason I am sharing this story with you today. Since coming forward with my story, I've known that I want to do what I can to help prevent child sexual abuse. An estimated 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men are survivors of child sexual abuse. In over 90% of situations, the abuser was someone known, trusted, and/or related to that child. . The statistics are scary, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing that can be done. I’ve recently discovered an organization called @mamabeareffect whose mission is to bring

I had to share this with my followers : some say I made this look easy but it wasn't. This was not to humiliate my predator although he humiliated me. This is to give children a voice who are afraid to speak. Now that I am a grown woman and after many years of suffering, I gained the strength to confront my abuser and encourage every child to do the same & every parent to be fully aware that this is happening in our communities.
@Regranned from @hikingforchangemetoo - I am embarking on a journey to raise awareness about violence towards all women*, and stand up for those who are still suffering. *women, gender non-conforming people and femmes. I will be hiking 4,279 kms by myself from the border of Mexico to the border of Canada in honour of all women who have fallen victims to abuse and harassment of any kind. There are many amongst us who have been hurt and so I walk for those who are not ready to talk, not yet strong enough to stand up for themselves, and to bring attention to the gravity of this issue. This wilderness trek will start in April '18 and will take me around 6 months to complete. My intentions are to make a powerful statement about being an empowered woman, inspire others to find there strength, and raise funds to donate towards several organisations which are dedicated to stopping violence towards women all over the world. I will walk 4,279km and I will raise $4,279 (or more). Every kilometre on my journey is a dollar that goes towards this cause. Women have been abused for far too long. It is time for change. Change that comes with education. Change that comes with good men standing up for women. Change that comes so women can feel safe. I’m hiking for a world that respects women, in which every woman can live in safety, free from all forms of abuse. It is necessary to highlight the positive role that men can play to stop violence against women so I also dedicate this campaign to educating men about how to be part of this social change. All donated money will go to several different organisations, all focusing to prevent abuse of all kinds towards women and children.
