Ocean farming system GreenWave has won the work category prize for the INDEX: Award 2017. The award is run by Danish non-profit organization INDEX: Design to Improve Life, and highlights life-changing designs within the categories of people's choice, community, home, work, body, and play and learning. Greenwave is made up of differently shaped nets anchored to the ocean floor for farming shellfish and seaweed. Each net houses a different species that is farmed at different seasons throughout the year, ensuring farmers have a diverse crop that can both provide food and also migitate climate change by sequestering carbon and rebuilding reef ecosystems. 📷 https://www.greenwave.org/ #greenwave#index#award#farming#ocean#sustainable#environmental
during the week, #30daynature is harder than i thought. i live and work in a pretty urban environment. to intentionally spend 30 minutes outside, where it is green and at least resembles nature, takes more effort than i expected. usually, i take the bike to work, but today i decided to walk instead - for example through this park right across my office building with my #reusable coffee mug in tow 💚 spending time outside between the trees makes me happy, i know that. why is it so difficult to find 30 minutes a day to take a break and enjoy it? #intentionalliving#greenliving#zerowaste#gogreen#makelesstrash
Photo by @timgriffithphoto ・・・ Last week, the ZGF designed Stanford University Central Energy Facility was recognized with a 2017 AIA National Award for Architecture. Drawing inspiration from the physiology of the human cardiovascular system, this project is the heart of the university’s transformational campus-wide energy system, embodying the latest technological advances in heat recovery. Signifying the university’s desire to be a leader in environmental stewardship, the 125,614-square-foot facility that replaced an aging gas-fired central energy plant comprises five main elements. An entry court and teaching facility bridges the major plant functions, including the heat-recovery chiller and its two large cold-water storage tanks, the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, and a new electrical substation that serves the entire campus. Much more than a teaching facility and power plant, the Central Energy Facility functions as a living laboratory where faculty and students can examine the technologies and systems at work in the net-positive-energy environment. Engineers and manufacturers from North America and Europe collaborated to implement best practices found on both continents, turning the campus into one of the most efficient district energy systems in the world. #stanford#renewable#sustainable#sustainabledesign#greenarchitecture#leed#design#archdaily#architizer#archpaper#architectmag#jj_architecture #engineering#architecture#arkitektur#arquitetura#arquitectura#architecturalphotography#timgriffithphoto#modernarchitecture#aianational#cote @zgfarchitects
TAKEOVER TUESDAY! All words and photos shared today were created by @saralynnlivingston 🌟 Washing the dishes is a daily task i really love, oddly enough. It's a form of meditation for me and i either listen to a podcast or work silently, more often the latter. I love using a dish brush, because let’s face it sponges are gross and wasteful, and these wooden handled brushes are inexpensive and easy to find. I wash my dishes with @drbronner soap that i buy in bulk at my local co-op. I haven’t had a dishwasher in almost 10 years and what could easily be seen as a chore has become a relaxing part of my mornings. Anything can be enjoyable if you make that choice!
This old, #repurposed maraschino 🍒 jar has been my go-to for snacks, for two years now. Right now it has the remnants of my morning nuts and dried fruit. #zerowaste or reducing your waste does not have to be expensive or exclusive to certain people. It's what you make it and anyone can do it! You don't need fancy containers and pricey new items. The idea is to reduce your waste, repurpose and reuse what you have, and most importantly value those items. You definitely do save money too, when you stop buying unnecessary stuff! The mindset of want shifts to need. Then, you can choose to invest in some nicer containers/bags/whatever because those items will be reused over and over and over. For example, I bought two @onyxcontainers over a year ago to use at the deli in grocery stores. I can safely say the $60 dollars I spent on those have more than made up for all the times I use them for everything!😊 I have a mix of old, free items I had before making the #zerowasteswitch, and some new items I've bought to last the test of time. Bottom line, it doesn't have to be expensive or exclusive to tread lighter on our beautiful Earth! Zero-waste or less waste is what you want it to be.💚🌎 #zerowastelifestyle#community

Okay that may sound strange, but it is great, believe us. It's basically sweet hummus ;). At the moment we are trying to find new recipes & it's incredible to have so much input from all different kind of directions. Chickpea cookie dough is something that has established itself for a long time within the vegan and healthy eating community. A few days ago I found this recipe on @kichererb.se blog & I was amazed.
