๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธRESTART๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ The first day of our Step Up! six week program and as I have just been cleared to start running again I decided that I would participate.  My first week run program looks very similar to the very first program I followed to take me from non-runner to 5k back in 2004.  I have come a long way since then but recent setbacks over the past couple of years have really sapped my confidence levels.  Today I drew a line in the sand and committed myself to use this as an opportunity to restart , build back up slowly and consistently and most of all with patience (this will be the hardest part!) My goal of Buffalo Grand Slam is six months away, close but not scarily so. I have plenty of time to make sure I do this right ๐Ÿ˜ƒ  #theenergyqueen #stepup #restart

Here I am with Mr ROUT 100 “Christos D Katsanos” race director of the Rodopi Ultra Trail 100. I have never met such a charming, warm, charismatic person. Christos brought the ROUT to life in a way only he could. He has a passion for not just running in beautiful mountains but people. Each runner had a personal encounter with Christos and formed a never ending friendship. This can only happen in events like the ROUT, it would be impossible for say the race directors of UTMB to spend time with every runner. Thank you Christos for a unique experience.

Pano from yesterday's solo adventure. Sometimes I feel like the more I do this, the more sketched out I get by some of the things I do vs being empowered by them. Not that I'm some hard-core crazy epic adventurer, but it's not until I'm in the middle of certain situations that I realize just how much I don't know. Like what to do when you're free soloing/scrambling and get hit with muscle cramps so intense, you mentally prepare yourself to meet your Maker. Like when you're driving down a sketchy washboard mountain road with just thin air to your side, blinking rapidly so your tears don't impair your vision. Like when you're all alone in grizzly country and you've lost the trail, but still have 5 miles to go to get back to your car before the sun sets. Like when you scramble down some hippo-sized boulders on a talus slope to find a hidden spot to do your business and it's not until you try to scramble back up that you remember you've cracked your ribs. . And then I think of all the things the outdoors have taught me. The way I feel so alive when I'm out there. All the ways that I've grown. So while 2017 may be winding down for me, I can't be sad about all of the things that never came to pass nor can I sit back and be content with what I've done. "It's been a strategy this whole time...to look past it, so that it's not just all this one moment. To think about what's beyond, what other stuff I'm excited about...You don't want to put that much pressure on yourself where everything in my life focuses on this one moment."
