"How do we create a situation that when you see a young black kid in a hoodie, you think, maybe I should go up and ask the kid for a loan or a job as opposed to assuming the kid's a threat? ... #yeswecode exists to find and fund the next Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg in communities you would never expect to find them."—@vanjones68 ... Congrats to the latest @yeswecode graduates. Keep kicking ass—it was inspiring to hear your stories. ... Big thanks to @yes_khalida for giving @zendesk the privilege to host.
@yogurtsoda doing her comms director thing at thedreamcorp #yeswecode. Great ceremony and work from the team! Awesome to see such a talented set of hardworking folk moving into tech. #grit inspiring talk from Van Jones and the graduates.
"When you see a young Black guy wearing a hoodie, everyone says 'there goes a thug', but when you see a White guy, they say 'there goes Mark Zuckerberg.'" - the boss Van Jones quoting #yeswecode supporter and friend Prince
Earlier this year, I volunteered giving a Google company tour to a cohort from @VanJones68's' #yeswecode program. It's so great to celebrate the cohort's graduation with Van Jones himself and learn about how Prince inspired him to start the program with this observation: "Why is it that black kids with hoodies get mistaken for thugs, while white kids with hoodies get mistaken for Mark Zuckerberg?"
Awesome Day of Code with Queens Alumnae Chapter. Thank you to #quacembodi Co-Chairs Soror Seaton and Soror Teal and to the entire Committee for participating in #codered. #quaccodered, a day of sharing knowledge of Coding with over 50 youth participants from our programs led by our Soror Moira Jack and Demetrius Powers was a tremendous success. See you next year! #computerscienceeducationweek Be Empowered to Be #firstintech#yeswecode @easternregdst Disclaimer: Participant images posted with permission.
@Regranned from @easternregdst - Today is #codered in #theeast Let the youth in your community know Anybody Can Code! Share and Repost this logo and resources on Hour of Code™️ Be Empowered to be #firstintech#yeswecode
from @bkacdst - The Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter supports the CodeRED initiative to share the language of code to young people, especially girls and those of color. Learning about computer science can be the opportunity for someone you know to change the world! We join #theeast in saying "Be empowered to be #firstintech.” Participants in our Betty Shabazz Delta Academy spent their #dayofcode learning about web development, site customization, and cyber-etiquette. Even a grandmom got in on the action. Yes, multigenerational black girls can code! #yeswecode#bkacdst#codered#theeast
